Jagoron

DDJ believes that without economic development and solvency of the resource-poor beneficiaries, no development initiatives can be sustainable. Moreover, easy access to capital is a precondition to implement any economic activity.  As such, DDJ had given special emphasis on economic development through employment and income generation activities of the beneficiaries following group formation approach since its inception with a view to increase their (poor beneficiaries) family income and thus creating their position in the family and society as well. Jagoron (former Rural Micro Credit Program) is the initial interventions of the organization for its poor and marginalized groups which was started in 1984.

While implementing the RMC program, DDJ observed that the micro-credit alone cannot ensure overall development of the rural poor, and many small entrepreneurs, craftsmen and skilled workers in the rural areas at times struggle to overcome their sufferings due to scarcity of capital. Based on the realization that financial support to them would help promote their business/enterprises, DDJ took up the Agrosor (former Micro Enterprise) program.

The ultra-poor, also known as poorest of the poor, are often left out of the mainstream credit program because of the perceived belief that they are of high risk to loan repayment. On the contrary, the ultra-poor people voluntarily exclude themselves form microcredit at times because of the fear of not being able to repay in time and getting further indebted. To better understand these vulnerable groups DDJ undertook this program.
